5 Attitudes Adjustment for the Last Semester College Senior

Three days into my last semester of undergrad and I am struggle-busing it. Seriously, I thought "Senior year? Theatre major? No problem! Extra electives here I come".  What I'm discovering is that the apathy is still present despite the amount of dance classes I add to my schedule. I'm in need of a serious attitude adjustment or I won't survive. Excuse me while I preach to myself:

There's a great big ocean out there waiting for you. But first we need to cross the beach.

There's a great big ocean out there waiting for you. But first we need to cross the beach.

Five attitude adjustments that I need to make in order to make it to the end:

  1. You're Not Done Yet: It's as simple as that. You need to graduate. And that means passing classes. So if anything, at least participate, go to class, and study to keep that GPA up.
  2. The Actor Always Learns: Correction-a good human always learns. This last semester is not a chance for us to go "oh, well I've learned all I can out of this place". WRONG. We can learn anywhere. In my Shakespeare class I can learn about communication, articulation, working with others, as well as Shakespeare. There's a lesson in everything. No one is too good or too talented to stop learning.
  3. There are People to Influence: We're seniors. We're the top. We have survived four long years of late nights, cry sessions, and lots of failures. Shouldn't we share our wisdom? There are freshmen and sophomores who need to feel that they have someone they can ask questions too. They observe our attitudes and how we react in certain situations. We influence them more than we think. Make sure they have a reason to respect you. Juniors need a friend. Soon it's their turn to lead and whether they realize it or not, they'll be in the spotlight soon. Inspire them to give that last push which will help them succeed.
  4. There's a Legacy to Leave: We want to be remembered. We want people to remember us not by what we didn't do, but by the way we acted and how we contributed. Sure it's nice to have people remember us for that one performance or that one song we sang, but I believe its more important for people to remember who you are. I want to be remembered for the advice I gave, or the commitment I displayed, not for how I turned into a nobody because "I was so done".
  5. It Could Be Fun: It's the last semester!!! Have fun! Take those classes you've always wanted to take! This semester I am taking Alexander Technique-a class I've been wanting to take for two years. I couldn't be more excited. It's the last opportunity to constantly be surrounded by what we love. Cherish it.
