Professional vs. Amateur
Well, here I am....married, a newly updated website, a new drivers license, a new home...new everything it seems (don't worry, I've attached some wedding photos just for looksies!).
A lot has changed in just a little over a month, but then again, nothing has changed. I still am me, and so is my husband. I still eat the same food, still work out, still love the same Netflix shows. I can't help but think that this is about how it will be when I start working my first professional show tomorrow.
Before I continue: let's back track: Tomorrow, I begin working on Becky's New Car with Curtain call Playhouse. I'm really excited. The play is wonderful, I love my character, and the cast seems really great. I got offered the job back in early July and had a read through in August. Now 3 months later, we get to start! This is my real first professional job: one where I found the audition, prepped for it, auditioned, did a callback, and booked it! TBH-I''m pretty proud of myself....ANYWAY...
Back to today: I can't help but wonder how different this experience will be from my past experiences. Will the director be mean, nice, respect me as an actor? Will the cast bond like we did in college? Will I get harped on just as much? Will there be as many rules about conduct or not?
Yes, it is all picky stuff. But what makes a professional actor vs an amateur one? Is it just the pay scale? Or are there other things that go along with it?
I guess I'll have to find out and keep working my way through this. I do have a good guess that it has more to do with character (and I don't mean the one I'm playing) than anything else.
We'll see!
